Learn Dutch quickly with the UAF Language Accelerators program

Do you want to learn Dutch quickly up to B1 level? Are you motivated to invest time every day? Are you interested in learning online? Then the UAF's free Language Accelerator program might be just what you need.

This program gives you the opportunity to reach the B1 level in one year. You'll learn independently online using an official teaching method, practice with a group, and receive guidance from language professionals and discussion leaders. This combination of learning allows you to progress quickly.

The Language Accelerator program is intended for status holders who are waiting for their integration to begin. Unfortunately, for many people, this takes a very long time.

You'll learn Dutch actively and clearly. You'll work independently and practice online twice a week with a regular group.

  • You independently follow online lessons and complete assignments to prepare.
  • You practice listening and speaking twice a week in the evening.
  • Every week there is also an online grammar question hour with a NT2 teacher.
  • Discussion leaders will assist you during the meetings.
  • If you actively learn and participate, you can reach level B1 in one year and take an official exam.
  • If you can demonstrate that you have achieved level A2 or B1 and you have not yet started your integration process with the municipality, we will work with you to see if you can integrate more quickly or continue learning up to level B2.
  • You can get study materials and a conversation partner through the Taaly app.

Teaching method

We use two methods: LINK+ and the Delft Method.

LINK+ provides a lot of structure and guidance. This method is good for beginners.
The Delft Method requires more independence and is suitable for those who are already more advanced.
You can choose yourself, but you can also let us choose during the intake interview.

You can participate if you:

  • You have a residence permit based on asylum and are subject to an integration obligation;
  • have completed at least 11 years of education;
  • Speaks English or Dutch at an average level;
  • starting language level Dutch A0, A1 or A2;
  • have not yet started the integration process at the municipality;
  • can study 7 to 14 hours per week;
  • you can arrange a quiet place and stable internet for yourself.

What we expect from you

The program is fast-paced. We're looking for participants who are serious about learning.

We expect you to prepare well and participate actively. We also ask that you practice Dutch outside of class, for example, in conversations or in everyday life.

If you're not actively participating, we'll discuss this with you. If nothing changes, you can stop participating.

Important!

  • The program lasts one year.
  • New groups will start monthly from January 2026.
  • You prepare for the meetings by taking a practice test for each chapter and attend at least 80 percent of the meetings.
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have an integration obligation (letter from DUO or PIP interview with the municipality) and that you have an asylum permit.

Frequently asked questions

You can't participate yet. You can, however, start learning Dutch through the UAF Academy.

Yes, the Language Accelerators program can support you with practicing and speaking up to B1 level, obtaining the necessary study materials, and taking exam preparation classes. You can also take an exam or test that doesn't follow a specific method if we think you're ready for it. However, you will need to invest a significant amount of time in learning Dutch yourself.
