From International Transition Class (ISK) to MBO 2, 3 and 4
Learn Dutch language
As a young asylum seeker you often come in an International Transition Class (ISK). In the transition class you learn the Dutch language and integration.
Do you still want to start an MBO course at level 2, 3 or 4? Then you must be able to read and speak Dutch at language level B1. It is very important that you understand the teacher well. It is also important that you can work well with your classmates. You can make up for your language deficit by self-study and reading textbooks. A language coach can also help you learn the Dutch language.
Education evaluation
You can have your level of education valued. This can help you learn at your level of education. Is your level of education comparable to a Dutch VMBO diploma, or with at least 3 years of HAVO or VWO? You can then enroll at MBO 2, 3 or 4. You must then have a sufficient command of Dutch. You must also meet the other admission requirements of the programme.
Are you still in the ISK? You can then request a free program evaluation via the school. The school can apply for a program evaluation via the SBB. It takes 1 working week before you receive a message.
Were you unable to bring proof of your previous education?
Have you lost your diploma or grade lists and can you no longer retrieve them safely? Your school can then apply for an Education Level Indication (ION) for you.
Based on your information, the ION makes an estimate of your level of education. The ROC then decides at which level you can start.
Other possibilities
Are you not admitted to MBO 2, 3 or 4? Here's what you can do to achieve your goal:
- Sometimes it is possible to follow a bridging program that prepares you for an MBO course, level 2, 3 or 4. Ask about the possibilities at the ROC of your choice. Or contact the UAF MBO helpdesk.
- You can ask if it is possible to join a course for a few days. The program can then assess whether your level is sufficient. It is not always possible to participate in a course.
- You can also ask whether a longer intake is possible at the school of your choice. This will give the school a better idea of your level. This is also not possible in all schools.
