'From flight to strength': working on empowerment

Women's journey From flight to strength

Again in your strength com, after you have fled and left everything and everyone behind. That is the purpose of the pilot project 'From flight to strength' that this week has started. Twelve women from different cultural backgrounds participate in this. With the pilot researchand we of new forms of guidance (faster) contribute to empowerment and realizing ambitions.

The UAF experiences this in practice create ambitious women who have fled encounter obstacles in acquiring a social position that suits their talents. For example, municipalities have the responsibility to focus on the most promising route to a (family) income during integration. They reimburse (language) education for one person per household. Where things go wrong is that the employability of the man is often the first thing to be looked at. Once he is working, the integration is 'successful'. As a result, the woman's guidance often stops; its potential remains unexposed.

In the 'From flight to strength' project, participants work on their personal goals and ambitions. Together with UAF supervisors they work on empowerment and self-confidence, creating a community in which they inspire each other and a plan that brings their dream closer.

“I want to be inspired by other women and I also want to inspire other women, help them to rebuild their lives here,” says one of the participants.

The pilot runs until early June. We then share the insights this has yielded and decide whether the project will be continued.
