Gohdar Massom joined the Supervisory Board of the UAF Foundation for Refugee Students with effect from September 25.

Gohdar is of Kurdish descent and fled from his native Iraq to the Netherlands during the first Gulf War. He has now been here for over 30 years. He currently works as Director of Waste and Raw Materials at the municipality of Amsterdam. In addition, Gohdar has broad administrative experience, which he gained as a member of Parliament for the province of North Holland.

I've been through a lot in my life. As a supervisor of the UAF, I hope to be able to use my life wisdom and experience and improve the position of refugees in the Netherlands from a human rights perspective.

About his joining the Supervisory Board of the UAF, he says: “I have been through a lot in my life. As a supervisor of the UAF, I hope to be able to use my life wisdom and experience and improve the position of refugees in the Netherlands from a human rights perspective.” Maarten van Beek, chairman of the Supervisory Board of UAF, says: “We are extremely pleased that Gohdar has joined the Supervisory Board. His personal story, but especially his administrative experience and knowledge of the refugee issue, is of great value to the UAF.”

The UAF represents the interests of refugee students and professionals and supports them with appropriate education and decent work, so that they can regain control over their own lives.
