Municipal elections: vote for equal opportunities in education and work

Denis Kabuye UAF Award

On March 16 Can we all go to the polls together? for the municipal elections. Municipalities play a crucial role in creating opportunities for status holders (runaway students and professionalsls which makes build a future here)That is why the UAF draws attention to four in the run-up to the elections important points which makes contribute to equal opportunities knowledge and talent development

Are you or do you know a future city council member, help us to get the call Below spread. This can be done by bringing this message to the attention of (future) council members or by sharing it with two clicks on Twitter en LinkedIn.

Capitalize on the talents of status holders in your municipality!

Status holders in your municipality bring knowledge and experience. Municipalities and beneficiaries themselves benefit if they find work that matches their capacities and ambitions. The road to get there is full of hurdles and your municipality has an important role to take away. With the UAF 4 point plan we offer you tools to capitalize on talent in your municipality. We give you consideration:

  1. Give beneficiaries aged 30 and older the opportunity to follow a (short) course. In this way they increase the chance of finding a job that matches their knowledge and experience. The investment by allowing them to study while retaining benefits will pay for itself in the future. Approximately 50 municipalities have already preceded you.
  2. Organize a diverse offer under the new integration routes. With the arrival of the new Civic Integration Act, the coordinating role for integration lies with the municipality. Organize language offerings for the highest possible language level. Seek regional cooperation to promote labor market opportunities for beneficiaries, for example by developing work-study programmes. How? We like to think along.
  3. Offer travel allowance. This may seem like a small thing, but in practice it often determines the (im)possibilities for status holders to study or gain work experience. By reimbursing travel costs, status holders can travel to nearby municipalities for the right language school, educational institution or workplace. Don't let talent get bogged down by practical obstacles.
  4. Focus on creating employment for status holders. Less than half of the status holders who received a residence permit in 2014 still had a job in mid-2020. Encourage employers in the municipality to hire status holders and, as a municipality, offer job and internship positions for talented status holders. Good example leads to good follow.

UAF 4-point plan

The UAF would like to give you 4 tools to guide status holders during the new council term
to study and work that matches their talent, ambition and capabilities. This results in a win-win situation for beneficiaries, municipalities and society as a whole.
