Letter to the Minister: Major concerns about the fine for long-term study

The Hague House of Representatives

The announced long-term study fine will have far-reaching consequences for the accessibility of higher education, in particular for students with a refugee background. This is stated in the letter from the Foundation for Refugee Students UAF to the Minister of Education and the House of Representatives. In our letter, we ask the Minister to withdraw the measure or at least exclude certain groups from the measure.

Our letter to Minister Eppo Bruins of Education and a second letter to the committee members of OCW were sent by our director-manager Mirjam Huisman. With letters like these, we as UAF make our voice heard. In particular, we use our knowledge to provide important arguments to advocate an exception for those groups of people we have been committed to since 1948.

The discussion of the long-term study measure, as part of the budgetary treatment of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), will take place on 26 and 27 November 2024.
