Don't have a residence permit yet?
These conditions apply to asylum seekers in procedure:
• You have applied for asylum in the Netherlands and an asylum procedure is ongoing.
• You are in your first asylum procedure.
You have had the second interview/Nader Gehoor with the IND and you are still waiting for a decision from the IND.
Or
After a negative decision from the IND, you have received a positive decision from the court. (Your first procedure is again being processed by the IND.)
*If there is a repeated asylum application (HASA) or an appeal, you cannot apply.
• You speak English or Dutch.
• You have completed prior education in your country of origin comparable to the Dutch havo 5 level or 12 years of previous education.
Please note: Without a residence permit you cannot get support from the UAF to start work.

Do you not have language level B1?
The UAF requires that all applicants with a residence permit have at least started with B1-level Dutch before they can apply for support from the UAF. In order to receive support from the UAF for an English-taught study programme (or the preparation towards an English-taught programme, like the IELTS exam) you must first have achieved B1-level Dutch. Continue with your Dutch language course and check our website for tips on how to learn Dutch.

Have you had less than 12 years of previous education in your country of origin?
Are you interested in a study programme or work placement at MBO level? Then 10 or 11 years of previous education or HAVO 3 level may also be sufficient. Do you want to take a preparatory year (schakeljaar)? Then other application conditions apply.

Do you not yet have a Dutch residence permit on the basis of asylum or did you get it more than 5 years ago?
Without a residence permit you cannot get support from the UAF to start working immediately.

Do you have language level B2?
Do you have language level B2 and have not yet started a language course in Dutch? Read more about what we can do for you.

Do you not have a residence permit yet?
Unfortunately, the Corona measures have led to a long waiting time for us to process asylum seekers' applications for support. For this reason, we have decided to temporarily stop processing new applications from people who are still in the asylum procedure. We are now aiming to invite applicants whose applications we are processing for an interview as soon as possible, but under the current circumstances this will take place gradually. It is not yet clear when we will start processing new applications. As soon as we know more, we will publish it on our website. Keep an eye on it regularly. On our website you will find tips about learning Dutch while you are waiting for the decision in your asylum procedure.

Did you get your residence permit more than 5 years ago?
If you have not taken any steps in your career yet, chances are that the UAF will not be able to support you. We can advise you on studying and working. If you have already taken many steps in your career, the UAF may be able to support you.
